Whew. This was a big project. It all started when I drew Kilphy, the girl in pink. I wanted to do all eight main OCs of RWC like this as well, so I eventually finished them all as separate pictures. Then I scanned them separately, did some MSPaint editing, and voila. A decent group picture.
They're paired as the female characters directly above their main male partner, and they're all different types of relationships: the first pair are daughter-father, the second are girlfriend-boyfriend, the third are student-mentor, the last is sister-brother. Names and BG color as follows:
Blue: Beni Masanari Ah, the heroine. Numero uno. The very first OC I ever created for a round robin story I participated in YEARS ago. She's gone through huge changes and suffered the Mary Sue bug for a while before I *finally* settled on her current design and personality. She's heavily influenced from Sailor Moon, especially Sailor Mercury for her ice powers and Sailor Saturn for her kickass weapon. Her clothes are pretty much what I like wearing, with more 'tough' adjustments. I don't remember where her white waist cape comes from, but it's become a huge part of her tomboyish style. Beni's personality stems from my disgust of how fighting girls are always weaker and lose to enemies so easily in anime, so I wanted to change that by making her a take-no-prisoners fighter.
Pink: Kilphy Nekomata Took me a long time before I came to her final design. She started off as a Sonic anthro: a silver cat with the same split tail you see. Then I lost interest in the series and altered Kilphy several times into a human, eventually coming to what you see. She's kind of a cross between Slayers' Amelia and Kinomoto Sakura from Card Captors, and the nekomata part came after doing some Naruto research. I originally was going to give her a boomerang as a weapon, but decided against it as Kilphy's not a confrontational type. She'd rather fight with magic than weapons.
Silver: Yukihada Terumi Minaguchi Yuko is one of my favorite seiyuus, and I wanted to design an OC with her voice in mind. I also listened to Linkin Park's 'Breaking the Habit' repeatedly while drawing Terumi's original concept. It was originally a gothic lolita dress, but I scrapped it in favor of her current outfit, inspired from the artist Kotobuki Tsukasa.
Green: Rachael Vice Rachael was designed as a villain for a Slayers story I was hoping to do, but that never panned out. She stayed on the back burner for a while until 2006 when I revitalized her, drawing her in her former brown military suit. Then I realized it wasn't practical for her to be traveling around like that, so I gave her a sexier outfit to fit as the 'mature woman' of the RWC heroes. Rachael's personality comes from how easily gloomy I get, as well as how I wish I could stay calm in any crisis like she can.
Brown: Caliben Kalicos I always seem to write about father figures with my original heroines, so Caliben's design was inevitable. I personally look like my mother and act like my father, so I wanted to convey that with Beni looking like her father and acting like her mother. So I drew Caliben to look a *lot* like Beni, but I worried that it may not be very original. Still, I liked how he turned out, so I said "Screw it" and worked with that. To spice things up, I've given Caliben an opposite personality to Beni's rude and outgoing personality: he's more reclusive and polite, and he wears an Omega pendant in contrast to Beni's Alpha pendant. Their birthdays also suit this theme: his is December 31st, the final day of the old year, while hers is January 1st, the first day of the new year.
Purple: Ionis After finalizing Kilphy's design, I decided to give her a boyfriend that she could be attracted to and marry when she grew up. Ionis was surprisingly easy to design, making him a dark cat to her bright cat. I don't know where I got Ionis' name from, but it suits him now that he uses lightning magic. You know, ions and all that fun stuff? I also added little kitty bells to his scarf to compliment the cat theme.
Yellow: Malim Rubica Malim is an interesting fellow. He'll do anything he wants in the name of profits and science, even if it means breaking as many moral laws as possible. I designed him to resemble a chemist, but his clothes can be misinterpreted as PJs to suit his laid-back attitude. His quirky, irresponsible attitude comes from such characters like Slayers' Xelloss and Tales of the Abyss' Jade Curtis. I intentionally designed his hair to be gaudy and noticeable, so much that Beni often calls him 'Candy Hair' in a mocking fashion.
Red: Darcy Sheol Of all my OCs, Darcy is actually the second I ever created in my history. He was obviously inspired from Devil May Cry and was named Dante. Freakin' clever, huh? -_-; So after neglecting him for years, I revisited him several times and changed his outfit, and even changed his name to Darcy so he wouldn't be such a blatant ripoff. He was a lot nicer back in the day, but I've given him a confrontational personality so he can argue with Beni, mimicking Junpei and Celcia from Those Who Hunt Elves' arguments.
I'm not usually a fan of manga-styled OC's but these are pretty cool. You obviously like to draw your own characters and i like how you've really thought about their relationships and backgrounds. Goodjob with them.
